Description

The iris, Tennessee’s state flower, is a symbol of resilience, individuality, and quiet strength. While familiar and local, the piece’s darker tones reflect the charged political energy of the moment, layering vulnerability and tension onto its natural beauty. Layered marks and expressive lines mirror how personal stories build over time, shaped by internal experience and external influence. Though intimate in scale, the work speaks to broader human connection, honoring how local stories carry universal meaning. Framed in gold with subtle black markings, Moody Iris has also been reproduced and displayed publicly on a traffic box through the Germantown Association, connecting the work to the local community. Moody Iris aligns with Global Voices, Local Heart, showing how personal expression can resonate beyond place or language. The piece is in a custom, locally made muted gold frame with subtle black accents.
