I painted this piece at the Centennial Art Center, where I work part time. Everyday at the art center is very different. I’ve met lovely local people taking classes, teaching classes, and showing their art. I’ve also met countless people from all over the world that find themselves visiting Centennial Park and wandering into the art center. Sometimes people have cool stories about their travels, sometimes they’re weird, sometimes they’re in the mood to admire some art or do some gift shopping, often they’re visiting loved ones at the surrounding hospitals, and sometimes they just really need to use a bathroom. This painting was undoubtedly inspired by this quirky collection of characters that wander in as they are doing whatever they’re doing. There’s a lot of color, mixing and mingling, maybe even some dancing. This painting is meant to spark a bit of cheer – everybody could use a little more.

NOTE: The artwork will remain on display in the Soundwaves Gallery through the end of the 2026 Season.
