Description
Duty Done is inspired by a confederate monument in Centennial Park in Nashville, TN. I have spent time in this park for most of my life, but never took the time to read the engraved monument. One afternoon in October 2021 I was struck by the image of black kids innocently playing around the statue. Some of the kids were shooting toy guns which brought the battle that the statue is referencing to mind. The plaque reads “Duty Done, Honor Won 1861-1865”. I considered what that sentiment meant to me and the kids playing around the monument.
