Volunteer Spotlight: Anjlee Khurana

Introducing the Arts & Business Council’s new series: Volunteer Spotlight! We are proud to highlight just a few of the many dedicated professionals who give their time, expertise, and care to support Nashville’s creative community through ABC.

Our volunteers are essential partners in our work. From providing pro bono legal and professional through Volunteer Lawyers & Professionals for the Arts (VLPA) to serving as mentors for artists through Periscope: Artist Entrepreneur Training, our volunteers offer practical guidance, trusted perspective, and hands-on support at key moments in creative careers. Opportunities to volunteer with ABC span disciplines and professional backgrounds.

Throughout our 20th anniversary year, this series will introduce you to the people behind the impact and share what inspires them to serve. We’re kicking off the Volunteer Spotlight series with Anjlee Khurana, an attorney specializing in music and technology law and a long-time ABC volunteer!

Anjlee Khurana is a trailblazing attorney whose work sits at the intersection of music, technology, and innovation. Since graduating from Columbia University and Vanderbilt Law School, she has spent over fifteen years advocating for recording artists, small business owners, and creative entrepreneurs.

In 2013, Anjlee made legal history by bringing a copyright case of first impression. Her career includes representing some of the world’s top-selling artists in managing their businesses, protecting intellectual property, and navigating promotional efforts. Long before it became mainstream, she recognized the transformative potential of technology in the music industry and has since worked extensively with technology companies across healthcare, legal services, real estate, and beyond.

We asked Anjlee a few questions reflecting on her time spent volunteering with ABC, which she began in 2013:

What inspired you to volunteer with ABC?

I became an attorney for the express purpose of helping creatives, whether they have money or not. I work with ABC because ABC shares that mission.

What has been your favorite “volunteer moment”?

At one pro bono clinic I attended, the clients ended up including a number of artists and friends I know from the community. For me, the event was filled with warm reunions, and I got to feel like I was helping my friends.

Any advice for new volunteers?

While I came to help artists, I have been surprised to find that the most prominent and indeed most rewarding aspect of volunteering with ABC is the exposure to fellow attorneys and to eager law students. Come to build relationships, finding value in and learning from your peers and your juniors alike.

Thank you, Anjlee.

We are grateful for Anjlee’s long-standing commitment to the creative community, and for the expertise, generosity, and care she brings to our work at ABC.
