The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Olena Noëlle Lysenko.
Olena is a multi-media artist who specializes in oil painting and sustainable fashion. She was born in Ukraine and raised in NJ where she received private instruction from a classically trained Ukrainian artist for several years starting at 10 years old. That training was incredibly foundational to her practice, but aside from that and a few art classes at Rutgers, she’s pretty much self-taught. Olena’s studio is based in Nashville where she spends most days painting, designing, and playing with new mediums that help her keep a fresh perspective in her work.
“Painting is my way of processing emotions and challenges in life, it is a form of meditation, self-reflection, and an intuitive practice that strengthens my trust and sense of self,” she explains. “Therefore, it seems it’s no surprise that Tarot, a collection of interconnected imagery dedicated to the portrayal of spiritual and psychological principles on the path to higher consciousness, would be my focus.”
Olena draws inspiration from her own life experiences and finds meaning and healing in the different archetypes of the Tarot. Each medium allows for a period of exploration and a depth of self-expression that inevitably concludes with compassionate self-acceptance.
