The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Ashleigh York!
Ashleigh is an abstract painter, most recently creating colorful works with acrylic on canvas. She describes her work as a layered and open depiction of pigment and medium in a pleasing composition that challenges the viewer with daring, arresting textures and cascading trails of contrast.
“I see my work as an attempt to coax forth the vibrance of life itself, through the beauty of color and subjective form…my abstracted expressions explore the limits of perception and the embodiment of the unconscious.”
She explains that the driving creative forces behind her work are bright colors and how colors and shapes create abstraction. In creating her work, she is focused on nurturing the dynamic relationship the pieces can create between herself and the viewers. With a unique artistic voice and a playful and evocative exploration of planet Earth’s color palette, she strives to inspire through inventive and experimental work.
