The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Lisa Reed Preston!
Lisa Reed Preston is a mixed media artist who embraces the beauty of abstraction. A self-described “visual disruptor” she uses abstraction and technology to create immersive and interactive experiences.
“Creating the acrylic mixed media painting is only the first step in the process. Once the textures, colors and balance is right, then the work of creating the complimentary augmented reality experience begins.”
Using Adobe After Effects, Lisa creates augmentations that bring the artwork to life, then her husband and partner Josh Preston composes and records music to accompany the piece.
Growing up a military child and oldest of 4, Lisa spent much of her youth moving and adapting to new environments. She won her first art contest at 11 with a Martin Luther King, Jr. portrait and acrostic. Lisa says that for years she lost focus on her childhood passion as the challenges and practicality of life replaced youthful whimsy.
Upon moving to the Nashville area, she rediscovered her passion for creativity and became part of the Plowhaus Artist Co-Op. Lisa’s varied life experiences continued as she became an audio engineer, graphic designer, STEM and robotics teacher, and data analyst, all of which have provided her with an enthusiasm for problem solving and experimentation. She is also a member of the Periscope: Artist Entrepreneur Training Class of 2022. For the last 18 years, Lisa has resided with her husband in Bellevue, TN.
