The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Jennie Schut.
Jennie is an award-winning artist, author, and a certified Enneagram Applications Professional. She is the founder of Fly Forward, an organization that aids creative and spiritual exploration, awakening and flourishing through educational materials, small groups, retreats, workshops, individual art instruction, creative direction and leadership training.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Middle Tennessee State University and a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Selah Center for Spiritual Formation.
“I want to create snapshots in time of ephemeral, astonishing moments that become a centrifugal force in such a way that there is a narrative or history leading up to this point of emphasis and away from it, causing this moment in time to be the climax of something beautiful.”
Jennie works primarily with oils and encaustic, a wax-based medium, and has created a unique process of collage with copper trees sewn on canvas. With an emphasis on figures and the human, she also enjoys using photography as part of her process. Her desire is for her work to aid the viewer in perceiving the beauty in commonplace moments with her use of dynamic angles, textures, and light.
