Meet the 2025 Soundwaves Gallery Artists: Daniel Arite, Robert Scobey & Carrie DePauw

  1. From the rhythm of the music created here to the natural beauty of our parks and greenways, there is a spirit of connection, celebration, and resilience at the core of Nashville’s identity. This city is a dynamic place where history is created and preserved, where innovation thrives alongside tradition, and where Nashvillians—old and new—are the beating pulse of a thriving and changing city. The Soundwaves Gallery: THE HE(ART) OF NASHVILLE is a celebration of place, people, stories, and community spirit at the core of Nashville’s identity as a uniquely creative city. Meet the artists!

    Daniel Arite

  2. Daniel Arite is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative practice encompasses drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and sculptural assemblages. He works with various up-cycled materials (including wood, plastic, leather, and metal) to create two dimensional assemblages and mixed media collage. This practice grew out of his views on sustainability and a desire to create art in an Earth-friendly way. Daniel’s works are abstract and conceptual in nature and often reference metaphysical themes, our connection to nature and to each other. Over the past decade he has worked with organizations throughout Nashville and Middle Tennessee facilitating community-based visual art and music workshops. He enjoys participating in collaborative projects with other artists. Daniel is also a composer and recording artist.
  3. Sonic 2  Mixed media assemblage on wood. This assemblage is a reflection of the creative character of Nashville. The sound wave that travels across the piece is a source of creative energy that is always present in the city. The abstract figure in the foreground sings to the stratosphere as instruments are drawn into the wave. The heart (representing a love for the craft) is always present as it floats in the air beside the figure. This piece celebrates THE HE(ART) OF NASHVILLE as the people and stories that contribute to our community spirit.

    Robert Scobey

Robert Scobey (BA Lipscomb University, MFA Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts ’09) is an interdisciplinary artist from Nashville. He currently teaches foundations at Watkins College of Art at Belmont University. His paintings have been featured in New American Paintings, issue no. 136, South Region.

Ecology Altered Book. In this book published in 1963, I used an x-acto knife to cut the words, “The heart of the world will keep beating long after you and I are gone.” This work is about our place in the world, about our place in history, and a desire for a posture of stewardship toward the place where we live. It is a reminder of the relative brevity of human life as it relates to larger ecosystems that surround us (cities, societies, and the planet as a whole).

    Carrie DePauw

Carrie DePauw is an artist whose acrylic paintings are deeply influenced by Folk Art, with an ornate and decorative quality that captures the viewer’s attention. Carrie approaches her art with a remarkable focus, spending hours on each piece, carefully selecting her colors and adding intricate layers of detail.

  4. Art for Carrie is a means of self-expression and discovery—an opportunity to communicate her unique perspective and connect with the world around her. By sharing her artwork in exhibitions, Carrie has become an inspiration, demonstrating the power of art to foster connection and empowerment. Carrie is part of the visual arts program at Friends Life Community (FLC), an organization that provides opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to grow, develop, and be active members of the community. Through FLC’s person-driven program, the artists are encouraged to explore their creativity and share their work with others.
  5. Max Acrylic paint. The artist’s paintings evoke the charm of folk art through their ornate and decorative qualities. Each piece is a labor of love, as she dedicates countless hours to ensure that every mark is intentional and purposeful. In this painting, the artist embraces the theme of THE HE(ART) OF NASHVILLE through her thoughtful use of warm colors and a bordering design that symbolizes the unity and support that form the foundation of this vibrant city. The warm tones evoke the feeling of community, warmth, and connection, reflecting Nashville’s inviting atmosphere. The border design serves as a metaphor for the collective energy of the city’s diverse neighborhoods and its commitment to supporting one another. Just as the individual dots and colors within the painting unite to create a larger image, the people of Nashville contribute their unique strengths and passions to form a thriving, harmonious community.

This unique exhibition features 44 artworks by 44 local artists selected by the Nashville Soccer Club and the Arts & Business Council in collaboration with a three-person curatorial committee comprised of local arts leaders Michael J. McBride, Artist, Illustrator, Printmaker, Painter, and Instructor of Art at Tennessee State University; Amanda H. Hellman, Director of the Vanderbilt University Museum of Art; and Michael Mitchell (aka mikewindy), Artist and Art Education Coordinator at Tennessee State University.

The artwork will remain on display in the Soundwaves Gallery at GEODIS Park through the end of the Nashville SC 2025 Season.
