The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Nikki Commander!
Nikki is a painter and third-generation artist from Nashville. She is a self-identified perpetual purpose-seeker and over thinker. She has found that for her personally, communication is best accomplished through the language of her art. Her thoughts and perceptions of the world around her are her muse.
“As an artist, I have the great privilege of painting the world through my own lens, a lens that seeks beauty in the ashes and celebrates life’s trials for the rainbow on the other side. My art is an invitation to the viewer to widen their vantage point to see the great forest beyond the trees.”
Nikki was first introduced to art while spending time at her parent’s Tennessee woodworking shop where a scrap piece of redwood and a paintbrush were never far out of reach. Though art was a significant part of her upbringing, she did not pursue her creative calling until adulthood, where she found painting to be the perfect diversion from the winter blues.
Today her paintings are displayed in the homes of collectors around the world, and she has participated in several regionally recognized juried art shows. When not painting, Nikki is a full-time Registered Nurse, and raises her two sons alongside her husband Kevin.
