The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Madison Erickson!
Madison is an up-and-coming Nashville artist who creates paintings and pencil drawings, and is currently exploring digital art. Through her work, she strives to rid society of the stigma against mental illness, and to creatively display the beauty of common insecurities.
Her hope is that individuals struggling with their mental health or self-image will see her art, and it will inspire them to seek help, or to see the beauty in themselves in the same way that creating it does for her.
“I believe that focusing on these topics in my art has not only allowed me to show others the importance of mental health awareness, but it has also helped me come to terms with my own mental health and insecurities, and I have truly been able to feel the effect that I had intended.”
Madison has been painting and drawing since she was 12 years old, but became serious about developing her skill when she was 14. She began making pieces for family members to display in their homes. She recently placed her portfolio online so she can begin selling her work, and therefore be empowered to produce her art on a broader scale. She is looking forward to evolving her practice and career in the coming year.
