The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Dalia Garcia!
Dalia is a Hispanic painter and bilingual singer/songwriter living in Nashville. She uses acrylic paint to create an easy, yet energetic vibe. She shares her dream world by infusing her paintings with her passion for music, dance, and travel.
“Music paints a picture and colors sing. For me, bold and vibrant colors are emotional synonyms for happiness and exhilaration.”
She says her focus is to remind viewers of the gift of childlike wonder that pulls at the heartstrings and kindles the imagination. Her goal is to highlight the glee, joy, and serenity of a simple beautiful moment. She has worked with different media, including watercolor, graphite, clay, bronze, oil, but favors acrylic for its versatility.
A U.S. “military brat” and former Miss South Carolina, Dalia grew up traveling around the world. Living in Madrid, Spain and throughout Europe for seven years, she was surrounded by a variety of cultures, art, music and architecture. After graduating from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Art Studio, she toured for eight years singing duets and back-up with international recording artist Julio Iglesias. Since then, she has performed with numerous bands, and in 2012 she painted the artwork for her husband’s and her album “Down in Jimmy’s Basement.” That experience inspired her expressionistic painting style that she calls “In Living Color.”
Dalia believes visual art and music co-exist, but the pandemic allowed her the time to focus solely on her visual art. She went wild letting her imagination and passion roam free, then channeled some of that energy to build her website and apply to exhibitions. You can see her artwork at the Soundwaves Gallery at GEODIS Park, and at a solo exhibition at the event space The Engine by Ankara in Nashville. She has been selling paintings and creating commissioned pieces and murals, and also working on a new series to add to her “In Living Color” collection.
