After years of successful collaboration and community engagement, The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and NowPlayingNashville.com officially passed the torch to the Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville in 2023. In October 2024, we are proud to relaunch this vibrant celebration of National Arts & Humanities Month!

A month-long extravaganza, Artober Nashville showcases the rich and diverse cultural landscape of the Greater Nashville creative community. From visual arts and music to theater, dance, and literature, Artober brings together artists, organizations, and audiences across the region to celebrate creativity and innovation.

It’s is about the entire creative community! Origins of Influence IV: The Alfred Stieglitz Collection of Modern Art

Origins of Influence IV celebrates early modernism, highlighting the pivotal contributions of Alfred Stieglitz (1864–1946), a revolutionary figure in American modern art. This exhibition features works from the Alfred Stieglitz Collection, donated to Fisk University by Georgia O’Keeffe and Doris Bry. Stieglitz’s galleries introduced modern American and European artists to the American public, shaping the course of 20th-century art.

Shabazz Larkin: WAR/DELUSION

WAR/DELUSION is this year’s Art in the Atrium project, featuring Nashville-based artist Shabazz Larkin. In association with the exhibition Monuments and Myths: The America of Sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Daniel Chester French, Larkin’s work includes a large-scale adorned pillar made from a salvaged tree. The pillar is his interpretation of the Nkisi Nkondi statuette tradition of the Kongo people, believed to be spirit-filled objects offering protection.

Through the Eyes of Red Grooms

Explore the retrospective of Nashville native Red Grooms, an influential figure in the art world since the late 1950s. This exhibition features a collection of Grooms’s prints on loan from the Tennessee State Museum, originally donated by his childhood friend Walter Knestrick. The show reflects Grooms’s lively and eccentric style, tracing his inspirations and artistic responses to the environments around him. Curated by students in the 2024 Museum Studies class at the Watkins College of Art, this exhibition offers a comprehensive look at Grooms’s dynamic career.

Kate Lewis: The Secret Garden

Join Haley Gallery at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for Movies & Mayhem by Madmen: Inspired Sin-a-rama, an exhibit from this year’s Hatch Show Print visiting artists Carlos Hernandez and John Hancock, adding a new chapter to the print shop’s ties with the movies. Aided by designer-printers Nick Larson and Sarah Budeski, Hancock incorporated words and very short stories into a series of letterpress prints, and Hernandez layered color upon color in both letterpress prints and collages. Finn Kise: Princess

Open Gallery is pleased to announce Princess, an exhibition by Finn Kise. Their work takes the form of sculptural pieces –some hanging, some resting on chairs—created through a process of plastering recycled clothing and found fabrics. Princess marks Finn Kise’s debut solo show. In the presented pieces, Kise digs into the manifestations of their gender and traditional gender roles through clothing in deconstructed and hardened forms. This show runs from October 5th through October 2, 2024. The opening reception will be held at Open Gallery on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, from 6–9 p.m.

Finn Kise is an emerging artist and studio art major at Lipscomb University. Born and raised somewhere in Georgia, Kise utilizes available resources and natural space as a central part of their practice. They seek to continually explore new materials and methods often working with recycled and found materials to create sculptural pieces. Kise is currently an intern at Open Gallery and seeks to share art with the Nashville community.
