Anne Goetze Named Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign

The Arts & Business Council, Blackbird Media, and F&M Bank have teamed up to present the Artist of the Week on The Nashville Sign. This week’s featured artist is Anne Goetze!

Anne Goetze is a painter and photographer residing on a small farm outside of Leipers Fork, TN. She specializes in Plein air, impressionism and mixed-media expression. Her subject matter features the rural life and landscape of middle Tennessee, as well as a beloved town in the French Alps that she frequently visits.

“In a way to express my emotions and passion for light in life, I pursue the visual through painting, as well as photography. By trial and error, I like to experiment with many mediums and different materials. Having a background as a retouch artist has taught me the art of manipulating the photograph by hand. The technique has developed over time by blending the two mediums of painting and photography together.”

Goetze was born into a family of artists and photographers, where the walls of her home offered her consistent visual beauty. Her other influences include Dorothea Lang’s Depression-era documentary photography and the paintings of the late 19th century French and American Impressionists. She has studied with many contemporary artists and friends such as Anton Weiss, Quang Ho, Skip Whitcomb, and Dawn Whitelaw.

Her work is found in the permanent collections of The Tennessee State Museum and Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, as well as the personal collections of Oprah Winfrey, Tony Joe White, US Senator Fred Thompson, Tim McGraw, Michael McDonald, Naomi Judd, John Hiatt, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, and Billy Ray Cyrus, among others.

Goetze is a member of the Oil Painters of America,  American Impressionist Society, Metro Nashville Arts Commission, and The Chestnut Group, a non-profit Plein air painters group dedicated to land conservancy.
